Lamp Shade Love: Be Bold With Prints & Textures
Bold lamp shade prints are back in a big way this season with colourful patterns adding a quirky sense of personality to any space. Creating a visual story by incorporating different colours and shapes in any room of the home gives it a sense of purpose and is the ideal way to make it your own. Lamp shades offer a fast and easy way to do this. Leaf printed lamp shades are popular in nature-inspired and boho interiors. Keep it contemporary and chic with a crispy white drum lamp shade featuring a bold leaf pattern in either a neutral brown or black. Metallic colours and textures are going to continue to rise in popularity as we head into summer. To add some instant shine to any room in your home a reflective silver or gold lamp shade is the perfect option. For monochrome lovers a modern shade with a quirky design adds fun to home offices and hallway table lamps that otherwise go unnoticed. For something a little daring, a large cow print lamp shade offers an unexpected ‘wow factor’ to a room full of block colours. It appears as if we are going to be seeing more of the classic black and white cow print as it makes a bit of a comeback. A modern take on floral patterns means strong designs in white and cream set upon deep purple and wine coloured backgrounds. Shapes and geometric designs are still really popular with triangular and square patterns not appearing to wane in popularity just yet. Fabrics lampshades are great for adding another layer of texture to a living area or bedroom. Consider the fabric type and colour of your furniture if you are thinking of purchasing a fabric lamp shade to ensure it doesn’t clash with what’s already in the room. Whether you have a drab looking table lamp or a floor lamp that’s in need of a makeover, a fresh lamp shade can really work wonders! Images in the...
A Clutter-free Bedroom, A Clutter-free Mind
A new season is a great time to revive and refresh your home interiors. Bedroom aficionado, Adrian Galiazzo from Snooze shares his top tips on getting your place of rest spring ready. The first step in any bedroom makeover is to de-clutter. Remove any unnecessary winter throws and cushions from the bed. This is also good time to move your winter clothes from the wardrobe and store tidily elsewhere. Beds with underneath storage are a great option, providing extra room whilst not taking up floor space. Remember, to be stringent with your spring clear out. Gifting unwanted items to your preferred local charity is a great way to give your old bedroom furniture and accessories a new home. When deciding on colours for the bedroom, opt for neutral tones to create a relaxed calm environment. The bed is usually the central focus of the room, so changing your sheets and pillow covers is a simple yet effective way to spruce up a space. Select a new colour tone or pattern for a refreshed clean look. As the weather gets warmer, it’s time to opt for a lighter weight quilt which may in turn help to give you a more comfortable night’s sleep. Cotton or TENCEL variants are suggested for warmer climates. To make your room appear bigger, try using a mirror to brighten up the space. The best way to get this effect is to use a large mirror that covers most of one wall – preferably opposite a window so as to reflect the light. Alternatively, mirrored wardrobes are also a great option. Taking down any heavy curtains and replacing with lighter alternative or blinds will open up the room with natural light and provide a more spacious look. Lastly, if it’s time you upgraded your bed but you’re unsure which sleep surface is most appropriate, try something like the bedMATCH™ system which takes a number of body measurements and prints out a small list of mattresses which may better suit your needs. It takes all the guesswork out of buying the right bed for...
6 Easy Tips How To Enhance Your Rented Flat
In the lives of most of the people, sooner or later, comes a time when they have to move out from the cosy parental home they always loved so much. Usually by moving into a small rented flat or a dorm room. They do it neither because they need to, nor because they have no place to live. There are different reasons – to feel independent or to show others that they keep their lives under control. Making your apartment look spacious and welcoming is helping a lot. You never know who will visit you all of a sudden – your crush, or even your mother! Here are a few tips on how you can channel your hidden imagination and amaze everyone. #1. Use mirrors to create optical illusions. If you put a mirror on the wall, which is opposite the windows, you will accumulate more light from outside. That always makes a small space looks capacious. You can gather light with placing the mirror behind a big lighting fixture too. A large one placed on the wall creates also an illusion of deepness. #2. Apply light colours or neutral ones. They have the quality to expand small spaces. If you need a colour you can put it on one of the walls, or the furniture may be in saturated, bright tones. Designing your apartment in white is always a good decision to make. #3. Paint neighbouring spaces the same colour. When you shade your walls, doors and ceilings the same colour, they connect to each other and make your apartment feel large. You can try to match the flooring too, although it is a hard job sometimes but at least it must be in the same colour family. #4. Operate with ‘invisible’ materials. Well, not really invisible, but ones that merge with the background. For example, acrylic chairs can visibly disappear when nobody sits on them. You can discover a huge variety of tables, desks and chests in the stores so don’t hesitate to be bold and use this trick. #5. Get ready for some drama! Well, you painted your whole flat in beige and it looks bigger now. But you miss the breathtaking detail that will complete the whole impression. The optimal thing you can do is to add a patterned wallpaper upon one of the walls. May be it will be too much in a colossal house but in a small one is more than applauded. How to pick the focal wall? It’s easy, just look at your crib in the matter of zones of use. For example, a corner with a dining table and chairs,...
Enjoy ‘Health Through Water’ In Your Very Own Spa
Many might still hanker for a pristine polar white kitchen but in the bathroom there are signs of a more sophisticated approach to colour and pattern. It’s easy to add colour with wall decor treatments and accessories but we also have help from the manufacturers who are keen to introduce us to new materials and some rather smart design. No longer is the tub just a tub! With different shapes available we can inject style and personality into our bathrooms just as we would any other room in the house. From Teuco, ‘Accademia’ is a new collection by Carlo Colomb and this bath, made from Duralight®, is from the range called POP. It caught my eye at the interiors trade show 100% Design, which took place in London in September 2014, and it wasn’t only me that noticed it. Design London voted it as being rather special and Teuco picked up a further two awards for it this year: Red Dot Award Best of the Best 2014 and MIAW Muuuz International Award 2014. Colour and Wellness White is considered a hygienic neutral to use where germs can spread so it is popular for decor in the kitchen and bathroom. But the trend is to think of our bathrooms as a place of relaxation and the tub especially is key to this idea. Clinical no longer, the bathroom can replicate the appeal of a spa and with colour being linked strongly to wellness we can use more of it. Getting the feel of a spa at home requires a sense of luxury and through colour, texture and pattern it is achievable. The naturally occurring blues, aquas and greens we enjoy where water is present will always have the effect of making us feel at ease and help us unwind. Whatever the style of your home you can enjoy ‘health through water’ in your very own spa. Even if we keep our all-white bathroom suite for a while we can work around it by introducing colour in accessories, in the decor and window dressings. But when buying a new suite the choice is varied and as innovative materials become more affordable we can splash out on something that is functional but has aesthetic charm like this tub designed by Jaime Hayon. The shower is where we wash and the bath a place to relax, meditate and...
Transform Your Bathroom Into Your Own Personal Spa Retreat
Often times the bathroom is the last room in the home to receive a little TLC. But with just a little care and some thoughtful finishing touches, you can transform your bathroom so it feels more like a spa retreat. Makeover your bathroom design now with these luxurious finishing touches: Flameless candles One of the first and most obvious and instant ways to give your bathroom the spa treatment is to add a few candles. Flameless candles are an exceptional option as they never burn out. Put a few around the vanity and then some around the edge of the bath if you have enough space. Experiment with different sized candles clustered in lots of three. Heated towel rack There’s nothing like stepping out of the shower and wrapping yourself up in a warm, fluffy towel. Heated towels are soothing on the skin and give you that ‘day spa feeling.’ LED lights around your mirror Rather than always using bright, overhead lights for doing your makeup or hair, why not use LED strip lights around the outside of your mirror to provide the perfect level of illumination right where you need it? These lights also give that contemporary yet glamorous feel we all love. Plush towels, robe, and slippers Invest in a few high-quality plush towels plus a soft robe and matching slippers. When you step out of the bath or shower, you want to be able to reach for your heated towel, before putting on your soft robe and slippers on exiting the bathroom. It really is all of the little things that make the world of difference! Fresh cut flowers or indoor plant Ever notice how your favourite day spa seems to always have gorgeous bunches of fresh flowers in every room? Flowers add colour, vibrancy and fragrance. Treat yourself to flowers for your bathroom from time to time or invest in an indoor plant that’s suitable for bathroom conditions. You’d be surprised how much difference a touch of green or living colour will make. By adding just a few finishing touches you’ll be able to transform your bathroom into one of your favourite rooms in your home. Your bathroom should promote relaxation and calm and by adding a few stylish additions you’ll experience just how easy it is to recreate that spa feeling at...
