Living in a Small Space
Recently, I stumbled upon some rather interesting facts about people making the most of living in a small space. While I love my spacious house in the suburbs, and can’t imagine cramming myself in a two-bedroom apartment with my boyfriend, some people don’t all the rooms and the backyard. As it turns out some people even prefer small housing… I read about a couple from Washington, D.C. that has happily exchanged their vast home for a 13 sq. meter establishment (I just can’t bring myself to call it a house). Speak about invading your partner’s personal space! While many couples neglect living together since each partner values his/ her privacy, and cases of couples sleeping in separate rooms due to sleeping habits incompatibility or just the sheer need of alone-time are becoming more and more popular, choosing to stay in a limited space – one in which most people might even feel claustrophobic, is a sign not only of bravery and love, but also of creative thinking, as one must really be resourceful to get all the basic living necessities like shower, oven, sink and etc. in a 13 sq. meter home. One problem that seems to be solved by moving to a small space is that you don’t actually need to hire house removals to get your belongings to the new home – there simply isn’t that much space. In other words, people living there need to learn how to manage without many of the gadgets others can’t go without. Nevertheless, the experts at Home Removals Melbourne believe that it can be a life-changing experience, not only one that will significantly lower your moving costs. How Can You Live in a Small Space: Since I already told you about the Washington couple, I am going to give you an example with them, and how have they pulled it off. See pics of their beautiful dwelling here. As it turns out, it is all a matter of working with the available space, and using it to its best. If under living in a small space – as small as 13 sq meters, you have been imagining a crammed, shabby place, prepare yourself for a big surprise. In what has been designated to be the living area, the couple has a plasma TV with a couch right opposite of it, so both partners can relax there in what looks like a luxurious living room, if only it wasn’t that small… Right under the TV, you will notice a small wooden panel that can be pulled up, and turned into a desk, should the home owners decide to bring home some work....
How to Re-Use an Old Mascara Wand
There is something no girl can go without – a high-quality mascara in her purse. While we find it perfectly acceptable to spend a certain amount of money on a reputable product or the latest, introduced on the market by our favourite brand, once the magical substance finishes, we are left with an empty package… and this happens at least once every month or so… Instead of throwing the mascara bottle and wand away, you can try some of my suggestions, inspired by A Thrifty Mrs, on how to re-use an old mascara wand. The good news is that, unless you plan on going make-up-less, you will have an endless supply of old mascara wands, and you can start collecting them for various purposes as soon as your current mascara gets empty. Phase 1. How to Re-Use an Old Mascara Wand for Cosmetic Purposes: 1. Eyebrow Brush Once you clean up the wand from the leftover mascara, you can use it to brush your eyebrows. It is an effective way to deal with the bushy eyebrow effect you gen on some mornings when you haven’t slept that peacefully. In case, the little hairs are feeling particularly naughty, and won’t succumb to brushing, you can spray some hair spray on the wand, and put an end to the eyebrow-rebellion. 2. Separate Eyelashes Surely, you have figured out this one on your own, but I can’t help but put it on my list. Old mascara wands are the best solution to dealing with eyelashes that have been “glued together” due to your generous application of mascara. It also does the trick, if you need to get rig of mascara clumps. 3. Dye Your Roots Unlike the useless brushes that come in packages with the hair dye, a mascara wand has some natural flexibility, and can help you get more coverage when sorting out your roots. With the wand, you can really get to “the bottom of the story”, and get every single root generously covered in dye. Phase 2. How to Re-Use an Old Mascara Wand for Cleaning Purposes 1. Clean Small Items Like Delicate Jewellery or Breaded Accessories Whether you need to get the dust out of your braided bag, or you want to clean the debris on a beautiful, detailed piece of jewellery. To remove dust bunnies, you can just use a clean mascara wand. Depending on the type of jewellery, like silver for instance, you might also need to apply some cleaning detergent – vinegar and baking soda paste does miracles for me. 2. Clean the Aerator of Your Kitchen Sink If you have a newer kitchen sink,...
Organizing My First Garden Party
Hey, it’s summer… almost… and as the weather is great, and the holidays are, to my biggest regrets, over, I am starting to wonder whether it is high time to come up with some ideas about my first garden party. I know what you are going to say – I have still not gotten a grip on cleaning and de-cluttering my home, how am I going to prepare my not-much-tended-to garden? To be honest, I don’t really care that there are some weeds still peaking from the corners of the garden, the previous owners of my small house were devoted gardeners, and my backyard looks pretty amazing with flowers and bushes (whose names I haven’t quite figured out yet). Furthermore, I have done my research on gardening in Melbourne, and have booked a reputable company to help me maintain my backyard. The mundane stuff aside, I want my first garden party to be unforgettable, so I have prepared a To Do list to guide me through the organization. As you already know I am rather absent-minded, and I need to set strict rules or I might get sidetracked and start planning a Hawaiian-themed garden party, go through getting decoration for a masquerade and end up with an unsuccessful combination of both. Step 1. Choosing the colour scheme and the accessories for my first garden party The easiest way to decide on a colour scheme for the party is to look through the patterns of the plants in the garden, and work your way up from there. However, I would strongly advice you against going with grey, if you have a rock garden for instance. Be bold, and don’t worry to go with bright, shiny colours – now is the time to do it! As far as the accessories go, you should stick with durable, weatherproof accessories that you will be able to re-use all summer long. After all, you would want to organise more garden parties when the first one turns out to be such a success. Once you are done using them, you can store them in a large sealable bin, until the next time you are going to need them. Step 2. Deciding on the food for my first garden party The food is essential for the outdoor kitchen and garden party, it could make it or break it! The good news, however, is that you can always bet of seasonal fruits and vegetables, and create a healthy low-fat menu that will taste incredibly. There are numerous recipes on the Internet like this watermelon feta salad with mint, or choose something that you know your friends will...
Christmas Party Don’ts
That embarrassing time of the year is near once again – the time for the office Christmas party. There is something about it every year that makes me shiver with fragmentary memories, drowned in excessive consumption of alcohol. Not that I am that much of a party animal or that I lack self control, there is just something in the air that drives even the quietest, most level-headed people to go extremes. In my mind, the worst part is that there is always someone with false good intentions who makes pictures, or even videos, of everyone’s most embarrassing moments. This year, I have my mind settled on changing everything up, and leaving the Christmas party with my dignity intact! The only question is how to do it… Basically, I need to research what drives everyone insane. Is it the ridiculous festive clothing which most of the colleagues deem mandatory, or the “opportunity” to showcase their inner party animal, and “glamorous” out-of-the office style? Most importantly, how do we all manage to show our worst, and keep our jobs – a mystery… Without further ado, I will offer you my conclusions, and, naturally, a list of Christmas party don’ts: 1. Don’t Wear Christmas Decoration You may be the greatest Christmas enthusiast of all times but, frankly, save the overly-Christmas-y behaviour for your loved ones. At the office, no one will be thrilled to see you wearing a tinsel instead of a belt, or using garlands instead of necklaces, letting baubles dangle on your years, braiding mistletoe in your hair (especially if you are over 20), and so on. In a couple of words leave the Christmas tree decoration in peace, where it belongs. 2. Don’t Go All Out with the Party Dress You might want to showcase your perfect figure, which usually stays semi-hidden underneath the business suit but try to restrain yourself from going overboard with the little black dress. You want to show off your legs – that is fine by me, as long as all everyone sees are your legs and nothing north of them, no matter how passionate you dance. 3. Don’t Take Out the Reindeer Sweater Unless you are invited to an ugly Christmas sweater party, don’t even think of going to the office party with one. Not only will you look ridiculous, especially if you are anywhere near a colleague who has decided to dismiss my warning number two. There is no woman or a man in the world that will think it is cute, tolerable perhaps, but not cute. 4. Don’t Abuse the Alcohol While the idea to let yourself go, and have...
Fight Noise with Noise
Like a modern girl, living in an apartment down town, I can certainly claim that traffic noise as well as midnight trash pick ups, hissing radiator, car alarms, and etc., are my worst enemies at night. However, being able to sleep through all that is not always easy, unless I am so tired that once I get into bed I am dead to the world for at least 8 hours. What has always been a surprise to me is that the best way to fight night life noise is with noise. Whether you are going to run a white noise app on your smart phone, let a fan or an A/C hum in your room, is left to your personal preference. However, if you have your heart set on going with the fan, you need to ask yourself if you would be able to take it everywhere with you when you aren’t sleeping home. Getting accustomed to certain type of white noise can be rather addictive. I used to have this great small fan that I left on the entire night. I hadn’t really thought what it would be like, if it ever broke until it actually did, and I was left sleepless for a couple of nights. Naturally, my solution was to run to the nearest home depot and get a new one. What I hadn’t anticipated was that, even though my new “friend” was the same brand, it didn’t sound at all like my old fan – it took me weeks to get used to the new lullaby! If you, like me, are a light sleeper, you will be happy to know that there is always a way to fight noise, and avoid sleep deprivation. My friends at Fantastic Cleaning Fitzroy North have a few suggestions on how to get your beauty sleep: 1. Noise machine These little fellows are amazing! iTunes’ WhiteNoise app is one of the best solutions to ever have been offered on the market. It works great for me, especially the rainy day melody. However, if you are more sensitive to changes in noise level, you might be disturbed by the small pause at the end of the record, right when it loops from the beginning. Never the less experts at cleaning in Fitzroy North swear by these devises, and claim that even your pet will be calmed by them. Take your dog, for example, it is far more sensitive towards sudden street noises (the sharpened senses, and all…), and it can’t help but leap to check every sign of disturbance, right? With one of those machines the chances of being waken up...
