What Can You Do with a Lonely Sock
Everyone is familiar with the mystery of the lonely sock – no matter how careful you are, there is always one sock, missing it’s mate. Whether it has fallen out behind the wardrobe, or it has joined its ancestors, I really can’t help you find it. I can, however, give you a few suggestions on what you can do with a lonely socks, you will never again be able to put on: 1. Use it as a cleaning cloth – A lonely sock, in perfect condition, yet oh-so-companionless, is a sad, sad sight. One that torments the dreams of every housewife. To protect yourself from the haunted dreams, you can always do what your granny used to when she had to deal with the lonesome sock. Just wash it, put it on like a glove and use it to clean… or don’t put it on your arm, if you have a mild podophobia (fear of feet). 2. Make a sock doll – Another way of dealing with a solitary sock is to grab a needle, some thread, wool, as many colourful beads as you would like, and use your imagination. Do you remember how much fun you had when your nana made you one? Why not do the same with your kids – sometimes the simplest of toys are the ones that help us (and consequently the kids) to develop a powerful, creative imagination. 3. Warm up your cold feet – This tip is applicable, only if you have a perfectly good sock (no holes in it!). Fill it up with sea salt or rice and tie the loose end – just to make sure you wouldn’t have to sweep or even vacuum clean the floor later. Place it in the microwave for 2-3 minutes. Afterwards, you can enjoy the radiating heath for more than an hour. The remedy for cold feet works pretty well for sinusitis, too. 4. Make an aroma sachet – You can make your own aroma sachet from and old sock. It will not only deodorize your clothes, but if you fill it with lavender heads and other herbs, it will keep the moths away from. The Most Beautiful Castles in the World In complete controversy with my previous posts, I have chosen to name this one “Medieval Glory” with the more understandable subtitle “The Most Beautiful Castles in the World”. Why have I chosen to write on this topic? So I have decided to treat myself to a virtual excursion all around the world, searching for those romantic, tragic, yet so beautiful monuments of an age of damsels in distress, brave knights and chevaliers; princesses and princes; kings and queens who spent fortunes to build the most beautiful castles in the world. Having explained the reasons behind writing that post, I won’t keep you waiting any more: Peles Castle, Romania And off we go straight into the heart of Balkan history with the Neo-Renaissance Peles Castle in Romania. Hidden in deep forests in the Carpathian Mountains, this astonishing architectural miracle was built in the end of the 19th century. Not only is the view of the palace breathtaking, but it also hosts one of the finest art collections in Europe. Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany Most of you who are fascinated with medieval history and architecture must have seen pictures of the “castle of the fairy-tale king” Ludwig II. Old Stuff, New Purpose
Part of my journey to becoming the ultimate modern housekeeper who can do it all – have a successful career, a swanky, organized home, and throw the best parties, everyone wants to be invited to, is to become crafty, and learn how to re-purpose old stuff, turning it into something utterly different – classier and more useful. After a thorough Internet search, and getting familiar with terms like upcycling and downcycling, I can safely claim one thing – whatever it is you want to re-purpose, somewhere around the world, a resourceful lady has already thought of it, and made a thorough tutorial, just waiting for you to read it! Once I realised it, there was nothing that could stop me from getting my hands dirty, and trying some projects of my own… The bad news is that sadly, I am still not that skilled in the domestic DIY projects, so most of what I tried looked much like the infamous epic Pinterest fails. Nevertheless, I am determined to become a master of re-purposing but in the mean time, and especially since I wouldn’t want to have wasted your precious time on my troubles, I would like to share with you some of the best “upcycles” I found: 1. Old China Cabinet, New Mini Garden Storage Everyone knows that the garden shed is by far the most useful outbuilding, you can have in your garden. The Brits, in particular are crazy about it, comment my friends at Gardening in Melbourne! However, not all backyards are big enough to house an outbuilding, even a small one. The good news is that creative minds have come up with a great solution – you can re-purpose that ugly, and totally out-of-place, old China cabinet, your mother insist that you keep. Here is how it was turned into a fabulous mini garden shed with just a coat of fresh paint! 2. Old Tires, New Planters Speaking of gardens, a dedicated gardener always needs new planters, and I fell in love in the idea of using old tires as planters. It turns out this is one of the best ways to recycle the, otherwise un-recyclable, items, and give them a totally new purpose. The best thing about the idea is that you can literally place them anywhere – you can hang them like a swing, place them on the ground, put them on the fence, paint them in bright colours, arrange them in a line and make an entire painting, and so on. 3.
