Graffiti for Your Home
What do you imagine when you hear the word graffiti? Even though street art has become an acknowledged type of art. Most people still associate it with vandalism. One artist has taken it upon him to ‘take the grit out of graffiti art’. Having built himself a reputation of a world-renowned artist with displays in Berlin, LA, Costa Rica and his hometown Toronto, Nicholas Sinclair aka Dudeman stuns with his artistic use of colour and shapes. Ever since his first art show “Colour Therapy” he has made the bold use of vivid shades and hues his trademark. He took ordinary pieces of furniture only to re-design them into fabulous graffiti-covered masterpieces. Vintage cupboards and dressers shine in the most amazing vibrant colours making even the dullest of settings intriguing. With unrivalled skills and an eye for detail Dudeman combines shades and hues, lines and dots to captivate the observer’s eye. Home-owners with a taste for urban design and funky style will truly appreciate the intricate and dazzling pieces of art. With their slight hippie-chic look and bold statement, these items are perfect for kids, teenagers, college students and artistic adults alike. Don’t know about you but I certainly would love to add one of these unique pieces of furniture in my...

Decorating Myths – Let’s Bust Them
Just like fashion, interior design constantly changes, evolves (if you like the expression better). If you want to stay in stride with the latest trends, you have to be ready to experiment. In the vast world of home décor, there are two main lines of thoughts when it comes to the rules of decorating: 1. Every rule was only created to be broken by a brilliant stylist! 2. There are no rules! The only limits are those of your imagination and creativity! Even by just writing this, I feel inspired already! However, there are some myths which have been repeated so many times, they have become fundamental guides, imprinted in our subconsciousness. Rules we wouldn’t dare to break… or would we? Well, let’s bust some of these decorating myths that keep us from arranging the most astonishing displays we are capable of: 1. Patterns and Prints Shouldn’t be Mixed Said who? What better way to add colour than to boldly mix stripes with plaids, florals or checks. As long as you don’t go wild with the colours, you can arrange a harmonious display featuring all of the above. The prints, textures and patterns can be combined in numerous ways as long as you stick to one colour scheme. Depending on the style you are looking for, you can have monochromatic, analogous, complimentary, split complimentary and etc. scemes. If you want to learn more about them, check out the great post at Let’s Clean Up. 2. One Style Per Room That is if you haven’t set it in your mind that your entire dwelling should be decorated only in one specific style. To show you how ridiculous this “rule” is, let me ask you something – open your closet and answer this question: Are all of your clothes in one style only? Nope, you have chosen them to complement your personal fashion taste but you still have sports wear, business suits and etc. The same applies to your home, you can’t make it one-dimensional – you are not that either! Imagine you live in a trendy contemporary apartment in the hottest neighbourhood in town, yet you have a passion for antiques. Would you give up your collection just because it “doesn’t fit in”? Nope, you would blend the styles, make room for both and end up with a flat that reflects your personality and fashion sense. 3. Dining Room Furniture & Upholstery Must Match From the dawn of times… OK, ever since I was little, my mum used to buy everything in sets. Whenever something broke, it was a disaster as the set became incomplete. Nowadays, we live in an era...
Mediterranean Home Décor Straight in the Heart of Melbourne
It has been a long time since I have dedicated an entire post to arranging your home in a particular interior design style. With winter keeping us more at home, I have begun to miss the summer, the beach and the bright colours that come along with them. Luckily, on the other side of the globe the hot season has just began and thanks to fellow bloggers, I can still at least browse through pictures of smiley weather and white, hot sands… While I am wistfully thinking about Mediterranean breeze and lonely cabins on the shore, some people actually manage to recreate the magic of Greece right in their Melbourne homes. Today, I will take you on a walk through the home of Simone and Rhys Haag. The couple shares their “Log Cabin” (how they call the place amongst themselves) with a huge rescue dog -I don’t know about you but it sounds like a fairy-tale come true to me. Situated in Ringwood, the charming dwelling has an unique appeal. For the incredibly short period of three months Simone and Rhys totally revamped the building – turning it from a dark, gloomy, run-down building into a cheerful, sunlight Mediterranean home. From the bare hardwood floors with aesthetically scattered linen and wool rugs to the breezy white and blue complimentary colour scheme, everything screams “It’s summer and I want to have fun!”. What is the Secret of this Mediterranean Home? I know I was wondering how come for the short period of three months the lovely couple has managed to work their magic and create a little piece of heaven amidst the city madness. As it turns out the big secret is in the small details. The furniture is made of white wood, covered in cosy throws and throw pillows that add homey feeling to the space. The straight, clean lines combined with vintage ornaments and details create a lovely scenery. The plant pots popping here and there break up the calming white and blue colour scheme with an unexpected but very welcomed splash of cheerful, warm green. What appeals to me the most is the easy flow of the entire cabin. The rooms simply melt into one and other! Even better, the space is arranged as functionally as possible. The kitchen with its great self-standing oven and modular string system shelving offers plenty of options for any dedicated cook to work his/ her culinary magic. The artwork, the utensils and all the home accessories complement the interior design in a fascinating way. Everything in the building whispers quietly but confidently that it is always sunny in...
Green Bathroom System
Today, I would like to introduce to you a marvellous green bathroom system, created by a South Korean designer – Jang Woo-Seok. It is called Eco Bath system. It consists of a dual water-tank feature which has one primary goal – to recycle the water coming from the washbasin in the bathroom. Not only does the design look very contemporary but it is also incredibly compact. The innovative system can be fitted in the tiniest bathroom space without any problems. It consists of two main parts – one for storing of grey water (which comes from the sink) and one for clean water. What strikes me most is the simplicity of the device. It uses a regular water tank system, with two levers and a LED light on the left side. You can use the Eco Bath just like you would any other water tank, but when the LED shines in green, you can run the left tank and dispose of the grey water, stored in it. Using grey water features has been open for public discussion for several years now. While some countries like the UK have been suffering the hosepipe ban in the summer, more and more home owners have been working on developing their own variations of a DIY grey water systems. With the issue of preserving the world’s water supplies, figuring out how to use every drop to its fullest becomes all the more important. Going back to our green bathroom design at hand, I must admit that the design is not only environmentally-friendly but also very storage-smart. If you take a closer look at the design of the tank, you will notice that it provides a flat surface where you can place you bathroom accessories like shower gel, shampoo and etc. Underneath the feature, you can place other items. If you dislike them just lying on the floor, you can place a storage basket to enhance the décor. As far as cleaning the unit goes, you can rest assured that there is nothing out of the ordinary that you need to know. Besides the regilar bathroom cleaning routine, you wouldn’t have to do anything else, comment domestic cleaners at Docklands who have already had to work around the new Eco Bath system. As far as I am concerned – this design goes straight to my...
