Top 2020 kitchen trends
As with every year, we’ve seen a shift in the most popular designs for kitchens, and while 2020 has been a troubling year, there have been some incredible design changes and developments that we would never have expected before now. We’ve outlined some of our favourite new trends, so whether you’re looking for some inspiration or just love to see what’s popular, you’re in the right place!
Dark and mysterious
Before now, kitchens were all about those light colours and open space. This year has seen it completely change, with kitchens in dark colours becoming the norm – and we’re so glad that it has! One of our personal favourite schemes is navy and gold or brass, but black and silver combos are also giving us serious kitchen envy and really pulling us away from the traditional white and grey that was so popular before this. These deep, dark colours go far in making a kitchen feel very homey and rustic, especially when paired with wooden features to really make it pop.
Two-toned
This is the perfect choice for anyone who loves the idea of a dark kitchen but isn’t ready to take the leap into such a dark colour scheme across a full room. Two-toned kitchens provide the opportunity to not only combine dark and light colours to make a stunning pair, but also to allow you to personalise your kitchen to your tastes perfectly. You can combine textures too, pairing matte cupboards with wooden surfaces or accessories, which look gorgeous together.
Minimalist
Minimalism has been a very popular style for some time now, and it’s highlighted in near enough every room in the house, so the kitchen is no exception. One of the best minimalism styles that we’ve seen this year in the kitchen is hidden cupboards and smart storage, allowing you to keep your kitchen looking sleek and clear to avoid any risk of cluttering. Kitchens are notorious for being full of gadgets and crockery, so having smart storage will ensure everything has a place and can stay organised.
Blush pink and Sage green
While we’ve been loving seeing darker colours enter the kitchen, these gentle hues have transformed kitchens in a way we never expected! Perfectly paired with some white and grey marble, these colours look incredible and suit those who are looking to move away from the more classic, plainer kitchens but aren’t keen on the intense vibe that darker kitchens give off. These colours will help make kitchens look bigger, brighter, and stunningly modern!
Brass fixtures
The best thing about brass is that it goes with almost any colour scheme and looks fantastic. Our personal favourite pairing is brass with deep emerald green, screaming sophistication and glamour. Fixtures can include anything from taps to cupboard handles, so small touches of brass across a kitchen will really pull it together.
Smart kitchens
Technology has crept into all households now, and the developments it has bought into the kitchen are incredible. The most popular ones are sensor-activated taps and smart fridges that can track what’s in them, creating you a shopping list when you start to run low on various items. Smart lighting has also entered the kitchen, with the option for LED lights that are controlled via an app to provide gorgeous mood lighting for any occasion.
Green fingers
After so many of us were stuck at home for so long, kitchens have started to feature more greenery to allow us to bring some of the outside we craved so much inside. Some kitchens are featuring small herb plants, such as basil, coriander, and thyme, with others boasting beautiful Monstera plants sitting in corners adding a gorgeous level of colour, a perfect solution for those who are redecorating on a budget.
Instant hot water taps
This trend is a simple one but is popping up in the majority of new kitchens and will inevitably become something that we can’t go without once we start using it! These taps save both time and electricity compared to using a kettle and also come in a variety of materials and styles, allowing you to develop it seamlessly into your kitchen scheme.
