In the lives of most of the people, sooner or later, comes a time when they have to move out from the cosy parental home they always loved so much.
Usually by moving into a small rented flat or a dorm room. They do it neither because they need to, nor because they have no place to live.
There are different reasons – to feel independent or to show others that they keep their lives under control.
Making your apartment look spacious and welcoming is helping a lot. You never know who will visit you all of a sudden – your crush, or even your mother!
Here are a few tips on how you can channel your hidden imagination and amaze everyone.
#1. Use mirrors to create optical illusions.
If you put a mirror on the wall, which is opposite the windows, you will accumulate more light from outside. That always makes a small space looks capacious. You can gather light with placing the mirror behind a big lighting fixture too.
A large one placed on the wall creates also an illusion of deepness.
#2. Apply light colours or neutral ones.
They have the quality to expand small spaces. If you need a colour you can put it on one of the walls, or the furniture may be in saturated, bright tones. Designing your apartment in white is always a good decision to make.
#3. Paint neighbouring spaces the same colour.
When you shade your walls, doors and ceilings the same colour, they connect to each other and make your apartment feel large.
You can try to match the flooring too, although it is a hard job sometimes but at least it must be in the same colour family.
#4. Operate with ‘invisible’ materials.
Well, not really invisible, but ones that merge with the background. For example, acrylic chairs can visibly disappear when nobody sits on them.
You can discover a huge variety of tables, desks and chests in the stores so don’t hesitate to be bold and use this trick.
#5. Get ready for some drama!
Well, you painted your whole flat in beige and it looks bigger now. But you miss the breathtaking detail that will complete the whole impression. The optimal thing you can do is to add a patterned wallpaper upon one of the walls.
May be it will be too much in a colossal house but in a small one is more than applauded. How to pick the focal wall? It’s easy, just look at your crib in the matter of zones of use.
For example, a corner with a dining table and chairs, or a nook where you leave your keys or magazines. That kind of a wall decor can emphasise every little destination and it will look like a separate room.
#6. Keep the place clean and jumble free.
This is very important advice unless you want to hire cleaning professionals for a tenancy clean before you move. Even a small number of things left out will give the impression of a total mess. Reduce the clutter to just a few items that are most necessary to you. Create yourself a habit to clean the trash at the end of every month or every season, or you can always hire a housekeeper to do it. Either way the results will be awesome.
As you can see, making a tiny flat looks tremendous is not such a difficult task. You just have to keep in mind your motives, and things will start to happen sooner than you think.
